William Harold Beck, 78, owner of Beck’s Garage and well-known mechanic, passed away at 1:32am on Friday, March 10, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Harold was born on June 24, 1944, at his childhood home in Geff, IL, to Marion and Martha (Fry) Beck.
Harold was recognized as being one of the best and most respected auto mechanics throughout the region for many years. He was a top-notch mechanic, always willing to lend a helping hand not only to his customers, but also to fellow mechanics and the racing community. Racing rivals welcomed his suggestions and input…after all… he knew more about chassis and engines than most people would ever think of knowing. He spent countless hours fabricating, designing, and tinkering with his race car, trying to find that extra horsepower or shave that extra tenth of a second. He was a true perfectionist.
He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is now resting in peace.
Survivors include his wife Ladonna Beck of Fairfield, a son Todd (Jakara) Beck of Albion, three daughters Jennifer Beck of Monroe, GA, Tanya (T.C.) Carter of Escondido, CA, and Amy Hohlbaugh of Atlanta, GA, six grandchildren Gregory (Celeste) Oneal of Grayville, Whitney (Shaun) Moore of Clarksville, TN, Dexter Stratton, Willow Carter, Savannah Carter, and Stella Carter all of Escondido, CA, three great grandchildren Grae, Remi, and Emery, and a sister Linda Lisman of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Harold Beck will be at 1pm on Monday, March 13th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Victory Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. The Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
