Ted Buckels Woods

Ted Buckels Woods, 84, of Wheeler, Il, formally of West Salem, IL passed to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 22, 2025, surrounded by family at his home.  

Ted was born to Eugene Crump Woods and Mabel Arlene (Buckels) Woods on January 28,1941, in West Salem, IL. He married Rita Venters, from Fairfield, IL, on September 2, 1966.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy. After his tour in the Navy, he lived in Grayville, IL and worked different jobs until 1967 when he went to work for Mt. Carmel Sand and Gravel as a supervisor. 

Ted is survived by his wife Rita, two daughters Cheryl Waldrop and fiancé John Baker of Fairfield, IL and Crystal Acklin and husband Steve of Wheeler, IL, one son Gene Woods and fiancé Stacy Slone of Smyrna, TN, one brother Richard Dale Woods of Texas, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, parents and two brothers Billy Ray Woods and Jerry Eugene Woods. 

Funeral services for Ted Woods will be at 1pm on Wednesday, March 26th, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, IL. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
