Shirley L. (Crumbacher) McKibben, 87, of Fairfield, passed away at 8:42pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at her home.
Shirley was born on April 15, 1938, in Keenes, IL, to Albert and Agnes (Withrow) Crumbacher. On October 6, 1956, she married the love of her life, Charles McKibben, who preceded her in death in 2017.
Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield and, was a graduate of Wayne City High School. After working several jobs over the years, Shirley retired from being the secretary of Country Companies, a position she had for over 25 years.
Survivors include her daughter Cindy Simmons of Salem, IL, her son Bruce (Debbie) McKibben of Fairfield, grandchildren Tyler (Jenna) Simmons, Jared (Sarah) Simmons, Julie (Johnathon) Garrett, and Emily (Lincoln) Taylor, great grandsons whom she adored, Caleb Garrett, Joshua Garrett, Jack Simmons, and Sean Simmons, her siblings Allen Crumbacher of Rochelle, IL, George Crumbacher of Bridgeton, MO, Darlene “Joy” Flack of Texas, Louise (Doug) Schick of Rochelle, IL, Judy Scarbrough of Fairfield, IL, Doris “Kay” (Edward) McIlvoy of Rochelle, IL, and Faye (Floyd) Johnson of Marion, IL, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles McKibben, infant twin daughters, her son-in-law Rick Simmons, a niece Teresa Medler, and her brothers-in-law Charles Flack and Jerry McIlvoy.
Funeral services for Shirley McKibben will be at 1pm on Wednesday, March 11th, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, IL, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to either the Clay County Hospice Foundation or the First Baptist Church of Fairfield and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
