Rebecca Hildebrand Obituary

Rebecca Ann “Becky” Hildebrand, 77, of Fairfield, passed away at 2:46pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

Becky was born on April 22, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, IL to Viril and Genevieve (Urban) Cunningham.

Becky met Larry Hildebrand while attending high school in Clay City, IL, married him on June 6, 1964, and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together until Larry’s passing in 2016. Becky and Larry ventured to live and work in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles before returning to Fairfield to raise their family in her ancestral home built in the early 1870s.

She doted on her boys, was actively involved in their grade school, high school and church activities, tirelessly supporting sports and scholastic ventures. She did all of this while working jobs at Cousin Fred’s, Fairfield National Bank, Circus Video and Boyleston Waterworks and always flawlessly running and ably managing the household. Becky was an active member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield. She was full of compassion, very devoted to her faith and love of Jesus Christ, and strove to exemplify that in her everyday life, always ready to help anyone in need. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed gardening, nature and the mountains. She loved her sons, their wives, her grandsons and many pets beyond measure. Becky had an infectious laugh, a huge, welcoming smile and a calm, commanding, reassuring presence. She will be truly missed by all who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her two sons, Bryan (Laura) Hildebrand of Fort Collins, CO, and Lee (Cara) Hildebrand of Cookeville, TN, grandsons Theron and Cyrus Hildebrand, her sister Linda Lou Cheatham of Sarasota, FL, her brother-in-law Terry (Alvena) Hildebrand of Louisville, IL, and sisters-in-law Jackie Farris of Olney, and Betty Sue (Jeff) Clow of Effingham.

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her parents Viril and Genevieve Cunningham, her sister Janet Stark and brother Gene Cunningham.

Per Becky’s request, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, July 13th at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the church. There will be no formal burial at this time. Memorial donations can be made to the Feed My Sheep soup kitchen and will be accepted during the services or at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
