Melvin Staton Obituary

Melvin V. Staton, 86, of Mill Shoals, died at 2:13am on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at his home.

Melvin was born on December 5, 1937, in White County, IL, to Vernon and Edith (Hiley) Staton.

Melvin had been a tool and die foreman at Airtex Products until his retirement. He was a very hard worker and was always passionate about thing he believed in. He was a loyal man who loved his family very much. He sacrificed many years as a dedicated caregiver to his son, Robert, who was wheelchair bound from muscular dystrophy. Back in his younger years, he was an avid baseball fan and loved playing as a pitcher on the team. Melvin was a follower of Jesus Christ and enjoyed attending different churches and camp meetings with his son, Robert. He was also quite the outdoorsman, spending time on his 40 acres, making a garden, and taking care of his horses. He was very sentimental when it came to his family property, so much so, that he used wood from the property to build a sunroom and an island for his kitchen.

Survivors include his daughter Christine (Darrin) Downen of Barnhill, IL, eight grandchildren Jessica Craft, Kayla (Jonathan) Hamson, Rebecca McKinney, Kristian (Alex) Collins, Dustin (Alexandria) Downen, Ginger Miller, Doug Miller, and Matt Miller, 11 great grandchildren Laython, Myles, and Paisley Craft, Brantley and Lakelynn Hamson, Adam and Kira Barnett, Ares McKinney, and Gabe, Kori, and Damein Collins, two sisters Olene (Harvey) Bieber of Alton, IL, and Eleanor Lambert of Mill Shoals, his caregiver and friend Laura Smothers, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert Staton, a daughter Barbara McFarland, three sisters Helen Hon, Leota Toombs, and an infant sister Wilma Staton, and four brothers Edward, Dewey, Larry, and Wendall Staton.
