Maxine (Matthews) Young

Maxine (Mackie) Young, 89, formerly of Fairfield passed away at 6:32AM on Tuesday January 31, 2023 at her residence in Olney IL.  She had been the secretary for the school superintendent.  Maxine was born in Boyleston on May 24, 1933 to Arthur and Lily (McClain) Matthews.

Maxine is survived by her daughters- Connie Hosmer of Olney, Cathy Hayes of Granite City, and Cara Stemm of Caseyville; sons- Allen Harper of Geff and Matthew Harper of Granite City; stepson- Donald Eugene (Tena) Young JR; grandchildren- Adam Hosmer, Jessica Prejean, Nathan Smith, and Josh McCaleb; step grandchildren- Jason Stemm, Aimee Branch, Cole Young, and Kailey Young; six great grandchildren; Sister- Rosie Judge of Carmi; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband- Donald Eugene Young SR; granddaughter- Emily Hosmer; sisters- Dorothy Morris and Juanita Tate; brothers- Melvin Matthews, Gene Matthews, and Robert Matthews; step daughter- Donna Young.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Monday February 6, 2023 at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home.
