Maxine (Cushman) Lee

Maxine Lee, 99, of Fairfield, passed away at 7:17am on September 17, 2025, at Cisne Rehabilitation and Health Care. She had been a homemaker. 

Maxine was born on March 3, 1926, in Springerton, IL, to Walter and Ida (Winder) Cushman. On November 23, 1943, she married the love of her life, Howard Lee, who preceded her in death. 

Maxine had been a member of the Ellen Moore Mission for many years. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, making crafts, cross-stitching, and reading books. Maxine loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to sit down in the floor and play with them. 

Survivors include her grandchildren Richard (Janie) Young, Chris (Lynde) Hickox, and Melissa Young all of Fairfield, and Nick Wuebbles of Mt. Vernon, IL, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard Lee, her daughters Ruth Ann Young and Ramona Wuebbles, a brother Floyd Cushman and her sister Rosemary Flexter. 

Funeral services for Maxine Lee will be at 2:30pm on Monday, September 22nd, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial to following Hammack Cemetery in Springerton, IL. Visitation will be from 1:30pm until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Disabled Veterans and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
