Margaret Coontz

Margaret Coontz, 76 of Mt. Vernon, IL passed away at 2:40 PM, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.  Born on June 4, 1946, in Ellsinore, MO to Aubrey and Flora (Burkett) Brooks, she had been a homemaker.  Margaret enjoyed many things including camping and fishing, reading, coloring, and doing puzzles, and most of all spending time with her family. 

Margaret is survived by her daughter Margaret (Paul) Scarbrough of Fairfield, 3 sons- James and Frank Dudley of Jonesboro, AR and Paul Dudley of Fairfield, 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sisters Floretta Dewitt of Covington, LA and June Johnson of Poplar Bluff, MO, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred Coontz, daughter Betty Jean Dudley, a brother, and 2 sisters. 

Margaret will be cremated, and a celebration of her life will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, February 21st at The Geff Ruritan Building with Richard Brown officiating.  Memorials in her honor may be made to help with funeral expenses and will be accepted at the service or the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is handling cremation.
