Leroy Earl Simpson

Leroy Earl Simpson, 97, of Wayne City passed away at 2:12PM on Sunday February 12, 2023, at his residence. Leroy was born in Hamilton County on December 21, 1925, to Vetis and Vivian (Richardson) Simpson.  He was a barber for 65 years and also a custodian at Wayne City High School for 15 years.  Leroy was a member of the Wayne City Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School superintendent and the official “bell ringer” for 55 years. He was also a member of the Wayne City Masons Orel Lodge #759 for 70 plus years, and a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during WWII. 

Leroy is survived by daughters- Gwendolyn (Woody) Thomason of Keenes and LaDonna (Terry) McKinney of Wayne City; sons- Gale (Denise) Simpson of Mt Vernon, Bryan (Robyn) Simpson of Albion, and Keith (Christy) Simpson of Mt Vernon; 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren also survive.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Louise Simpson, sister- Donna Kay Newman, and brother- Dale Simpson.

Funeral Services, starting with a Masonic service, will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Wayne City Baptist Church with burial in Thomason Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW.  Visitation will be from 9AM until the time of service at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Wayne City Baptist Church.
