Kevin Wayne Melton

Kevin W. Melton, 64, of Fairfield, passed away at 11:55am on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at his home. 

Kevin was born on January 21, 1961, in Fairfield, to John Melton and Karen (Locke) Lewis. 

Kevin’s working career started in the oilfield, where he worked for over 25 years. He worked for a few different employers starting with Saber Construction of Albion, Friend Oil, Earl’s Tank Truck, and Eagle Supply, all of Fairfield, and ending his career at Wood Energy in Mt. Vernon, IL. 

Kevin was an avid rock hunter and also enjoyed fishing, but, his greatest joy was watching his son Chris and grandson, Rhett, ride and race dirt bikes. 

Survivors include his mother Karen Lewis of Fairfield, his son Christopher Melton and grandson, Rhett Melton both of Fairfield, his brother John (Cherry) Melton of Peoria, his sisters Schon Lowe of Rochelle, IL, and Debbie Lawrence of Collinsville, IL, his special friend Elaine Gardner, his special nephew Landon Lowery, along with his nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his father John Melton and his maternal and paternal grandparents. 

Per Kevin’s request, his body is being cremated.  There will be a memorial visitation from 5pm-7pm on Monday, October 20th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Memorial donations can be made to the Dr. Scranton Memorial Cancer Fund and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
