James F. Hutchcraft, 92, of Golden Gate, died at 1:45am on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Aperion Care in Fairfield, IL. He had operated Jack’s Place in Golden Gate for 15 years.
Jim was born on July 28, 1930, in Wayne County, IL, to John Thomas and Stella (Brent) Hutchcraft. On May 15, 1954, he married the love of his life, Mary Lea (McKean) Hutchcraft. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.
Survivors include four sons Randy Hutchcraft of Laurinburg, NC, John (Pam) Hutchcraft of Fairfield, David (Gloria) Hutchcraft of Cisne, and Kenny (Bonnie) Hutchcraft of Golden Gate, two daughters Becky (Kerry) Michael and Jacque (Tim) Harris both of Golden Gate, a daughter-in-law Shelby Hutchcraft of Mt. Erie, 22 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, three brothers Gerald (Janice) Hutchcraft, Larry Hutchcraft, and Randy Hutchcraft all of Fairfield, three sisters Mary Anderson of Ottawa, IL, Jane (Ron) Huffman of Fairfield, and Betty Dial of Iuka, IL, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, a son Jimmy Hutchcraft, three sisters Ruby Grady, Reba Hutchcraft, and Ruth Kurtz, and three brothers David, Sam, and Bob Hutchcraft.
A visitation for Jim Hutchcraft will be held from 5pm-7pm on Tuesday, August 1st at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Following the visitation, Jim will be cremated with a graveside service to follow at 11am on Friday, August 4th at Union Cemetery, east of Fairfield. Full military rites will be provided by the Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW. Memorial donations can be made to the Dr. Scranton Memorial Cancer Fund and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
