Howard J Bunting

Howard J. Bunting, 97, of Fairfield passed away at 6:55AM on Monday July 28, 2025, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Care Unit. He was a farmer. Howard was born in Cuyahoga Falls OH on September 21, 1927, to Russell and Vada (Jewell) Bunting.

Howard is survived by his son- Bill (Linda) Bunting of Fairfield; wife Velma Bunting of Fairfield; stepson- Greg Vertrees of Bloomington IL and Jerry (Becky) Buchanan of  Cane Ridge TN; stepdaughters- Cheryl (Todd) Abramson of Hoboken NJ, Lynn Tickner of Irmo SC, and Brenda Smith of Fairfield; grandson- Geoff (Michelle) Bunting of Evansville IN; step grandchildren- Ethan Swords, Caroline Swords, Stacey Jett, and Allie Buchanan; great granddaughter- Emilee Bunting; step great grandchildren- Adam (Megan) Jett, Ethan Jett, and Noah (Ashleigh) Jett.  

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wives- Margaret and Emily, and stepson Michael Vertrees.

A graveside service will be held at 10AM on Monday August 4, 2025, at Maple Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation, family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Care Unit and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home, which is in charge of all the arrangements.
