Doris Leathers

Doris (Dory) Leathers, 94, went to her heavenly home Friday afternoon, December 23, 2022.  Doris was the oldest child of George and Nellie (Wood) Doty.  She was born September 12, 1928, in Eureka IL.

Doris married Eugene Leathers on April 4, 1947.  Gene was the Wayne County Sheriff during the infamous years when Charlie Harris was arrested and convicted.  Doris cooked and baked wonderful meals for the inmates.  She was an integral part of the Junior Deputies that Gene started for area youth.  They moved to Bourbonnais IL and lived there for many years, helping with grandchildren and Gene working construction.  Gene preceded her in death.  Doris moved back to Fairfield in 2010.  Doris cooked and cared for many friends throughout her lifetime.  She was a Christian and mentored many people in their walk with the Lord.  Doris was a member of Lebanon North C.P. Church.  She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Doris is survived by her son Michael Eugene Leathers of Buckeye, Arizona; grandchildren- Joy Leathers of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Shane (Lisa) Leathers of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, Holly Leathers of Belvidere, Illinois and Adam Leathers of Mattawan, Michigan; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; siblings- Eldon (Evelyn) Doty, Leo Doty, and Janet (Wilford) Lang all of Fairfield; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Eugene, and sister-in-law Lea Doty

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday January 3, 2023, at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Lebanon North C.P. Church.
