Donald Gillison Obituary

Donald R. Gillison, 80, formerly of Fairfield, died at 12:11am on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. He had been a chiropractor in Fairfield for over fifty years, before retiring in 2017. 

Don was born on September 8, 1942, in Wayne County, IL, to Dellous and Geraldine (Keen) Gillison. On, May 27, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Lawrence) Gillison. They celebrated 61 years together in 2022. 

A resident of Fairfield for 70 years, Don was active in civic and social organizations, including Rotary Club, Jaycees, Elks Club, Fairfield Grade School Board, Benedicts Club, and a founding board member of the Frontier Community College Foundation. He was a lifelong sports fan, rooting for his beloved Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, as well as the grade school and high school teams in Fairfield. 

Survivors include his wife Linda of Springfield, IL, a son Tim (Jana) Gillison of Springfield, a daughter Heather Gillison of Chicago, two granddaughters Isabelle Gillison and Evie Gillison, a brother Alan (Brenda) Gillison of Pell City, AL, a sister Rusti Grogan of Fairfield, along with six nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his Mother-in-Law Thelma Lawrence, and a Brother-in-Law Bill Grogan. 

Funeral services for Don Gillison will be at 1pm on Monday, December 12th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service. Memorial donations can be made to the Fairfield Park District and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home.
