Clara “Billie” Farmer, 93, of Fairfield, died at 9:42pm on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Brookstone Estates. In her earlier years, she had worked as a telephone operator and then, went on to work at the Fairfield and Mt. Carmel Garment Factory, as the head presser, for 20 years.
Billie was born on May 18, 1929, in Westfield, IL, to Clayton P. and Nettie Inez (Brandenburg) Merrick. On April 19, 1948, she married the love of her life, Eldon Farmer, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Fairfield.
Survivors include three daughters Sue (Andy) Gregory of Sims, Sandra (Tom) Sparlin of Fairfield, and a daughter-in-law Jenny Farmer of Fairfield, three grandchildren Shawn Gregory, Corey Gregory, and Brandon Oliver, three great grandchildren Kylee Gregory, Caleb Oliver, and Emily Oliver, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eldon, a son Rodger Farmer, a grandson Lucas Farmer, a brother Bob Merrick, and three sisters Mary Riddle, Jackie Atteberry, and Dorothy Lambrich.
Funeral services for Billie Farmer will be at 12pm on Tuesday, December 13th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Northside Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home.
