Alice Arline Smith

Alice Arline Smith, age 92, passed away at 7:48 PM, Sunday, March 26, 2023, in the ER at Clay County Hospital.  The past year and 8 months she had been making her home at Cisne Rehab in Cisne, IL. 

Arline, the oldest of 3 children, was born December 23, 1930, to Arden and Mabel (Crouse) Smith in Fairfield.  She graduated grade and high school in Fairfield then got her nursing degree in Evansville, IN.  She worked many years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital near downtown Chicago.  Later she returned to Fairfield and worked at Fairfield Memorial Hospital until retirement.  At retirement she took up the hobby of making several beautiful quilts. 

Arline is survived by her brother Robert Gene (Frances) Smith of Henderson, NV, sister in law Mary A. Smith of Fairfield, 3 nieces- Leslie Jean Evans of Henderson, NV, Stacey Renee (David) Hagler of Douglasville, GA, and Stefanie Rae (Stephen) Brake of Fairfield, great nieces and nephews Robert Evans and Tara (Greg) McKenzie of Henderson, NV, Alyssa Hagler of Kennesaw, GA, Joshua Hagler of Douglasville, GA, Alex Brake of Chicago, and Lauren Brake of Fairfield, and great great nephews Noah Hunter and Austin McKenzie of Henderson, NV.  She was preceded in death by her parents and youngest brother James “Jim” Smith. 

Graveside services for Arline will be held at 10 AM, Monday, April 3, 2023, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, with visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cornerstone Church, as Arline loved her church very much.  Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield is handling arrangements.
