Obituary

Walter F. Simpson, 87, of Fairfield, passed away at 12:45am on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Fairfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation.

Walter was born on April 2, 1939, in Wayne County, IL, to Cecil and Tressie (Elliott) Simpson. On October 2, 1965, he married the love of his life, Doris (McDuffee) Simpson.

Walter worked for Lemons Sign Service in his younger days and was also a farmer and retired from Airtex Products. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was also a member of Lebanon North CP Church in Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife Doris Simpson and son Brian Simpson both of Fairfield, Marlena (Neal) Maloy of Cisne, two grandchildren Aaron (Anna) Maloy of Flora and Katlyn (Josh) Lewis of Cisne, a grand dog Jersey, six great grandchildren, his brother Elmer Simpson of Fairfield, five sisters Doris Roland of Longview, TX, Ellen Bass of Montgomery, IL, Norma Haegele of Fairfield, Joan Tyler of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Betty Brown of McDonough, GA, a brother-in-law Elmer McDuffee of Fairfield and a sister-in-law Sandy Simpson of Mt. Vernon, IL, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Elmo Simpson, Herman Simpson, and Allen Simpson and a sister Wanda Simpson.

Funeral services for Walter Simpson will be at 1pm on Tuesday, June 23rd, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the activities department of Fairfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
