Obituary

Melba D. Cargill, 83, of Fairfield, passed away at 9:20am on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Aperion Care in Fairfield.

Melba was born on November 6, 1940, in Wayne County, IL, to Virgil and Maude (Brock) Koontz. On June 1, 2001, she married the love of her life, Lester Cargill.

Melba was a member of the Lebanon North C.P. Church in Fairfield.

Survivors include her husband Lester, three stepsons Keith Cargill of Olney, IL, Geoff (Mildred) Wright of Fairfield, and James Wright of Mississippi, two step-grandchildren Casey Wright and Spencer Wright, nine great grandchildren, her brother Danny (Linda) Koontz of Fairfield, two sisters-in-law Marge Koontz of Paxton, IL, and Phyllis Koontz of Fairfield, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers Lyman, Virgil Dale, Darrell, and Dennis Koontz.

Funeral services for Melba Cargill will be at 1pm on Wednesday, September 4th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Lebanon North C.P. Church and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
