Margie F. Marvel, 93, formerly of Fairfield, passed away at 3:45am on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Greentree at Mt. Vernon Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Margie was born on July 12, 1932, in Olney, IL, to Chester and Margie (Marks) Totten. On July 14, 1948, at the age of 16, she married the love of her life, Billy Marvel. Their union lasted 36 years despite numerous obstacles and challenges. During this time, they both enjoyed being in several bowling leagues where Margie bowled numerous 200+ games, was league champion, mixed league champion, and earned the “women’s high” series.
Later in life, Margie went on to earn her high school GED and worked as a waitress as well as Airtex Products. She transitioned into a homemaker after having their only child, Melody, which she adored.
Margie enjoyed volunteering at Fairfield Memorial Hospital and the American Red Cross, where she was an avid blood donor. In 1987, she was installed as Worthy Matron of the Ruby Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed this organization immensely and was a member for numerous years.
Her most important accomplishment in life was being baptized by Rev. Carroll Kakac on March 28, 1999. After that day, she became a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Margie spent most of her life in Fairfield but, in her later years, she relocated to Mt. Vernon, IL, to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Melody (Scott) Cravens of Mt. Vernon, IL, her grandchildren Amy Green, Briar Harkins, Rylan Cravens, Aaron Cravens, and Austin Cravens, along with her four nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Neil Totten, Leo Totten, and Glenn Totten.
Funeral services for Margie Marvel will be at 11am on Saturday, June 13th, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Brown Cemetery near Mt. Erie, IL. Visitation will be from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
