John Matthew McKinney, 55, of Geff passed away on Wednesday evening October 7, 2026, at his home surrounded by family, friends, and his beloved dog, Koda Bear, who watched over him until the very end. He was born in East St Louis on July 14, 1971, to Gerald “Sonny” and Patricia (Gabriel) McKinney.

John is survived by his wife, Cindi McKinney of Geff; sons- Cody McKinney of Fairfield and Braedyn McKinney of Nason; daughter, Isabella McKinney of Nason; stepdaughter, Kasha (Kennett) Foley of Geff; step grandchildren, Keagan and Kaysen Foley; brothers, Ed (Elaine) McKinney of Fairfield, Brian (Christy) McKinney of Fairfield, Richard McKinney of Olney, and Kenny McKinney of Olney; brothers in law, Bobby Book and Tim Bailey; mother in law, Kay Russell; and father in law, Jim (Carole) Book.

John was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Jimmy McKinney, Sheila Bailey, Jerry Hartman, Frank Hartman, and Patty Mitchell.

Per John’s wishes, his body will be cremated, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
