Howard E. "Jiggs" Wood, 93 of Fairfield passed away at 8:20 PM, Monday, November 20, 2023, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Born on January 9, 1930, in Fairfield to Leslie and Louise (Swan) Wood, he was retired from Airtex Products where he had worked for 38 years.  Jiggs was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Marines. He was also a good athlete who enjoyed golf and basketball.

Jiggs is survived by his son Scott (Susie) Wood of Fairfield, daughter Leslie (Ron) Smith of Mt. Vernon, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jaquelin Wood, daughters Dana Wood Shockley and Michelle Hurt, and 4 siblings.

A public visitation will be held on Friday, November 24th from 1-2 PM at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.  Private burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery with military rites provided by Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW.
