Dick Jess Feather, 86, of Fairfield, Illinois, passed away on September 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was born November 18, 1939, the youngest of three children born to Burrell and Eliza (Haile) Feather. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. As a young man, Dick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve.

Dick married Barbara Stallings on June 5, 1960, and the newlyweds moved to Chicago that same day, where Dick worked for Oscar Meyer. In 1965, they welcomed their first daughter, Sheila, and returned home to Fairfield to raise their family. Dick and Barbara shared 66 years of marriage and raised three daughters, with their family eventually growing to include six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

After returning to Fairfield, Dick began a career of more than 30 years with Prudential Insurance Company. His work gave him the opportunity to serve people throughout the community, something that came naturally to him. He never met a stranger and genuinely enjoyed getting to know people and helping with their insurance needs. He later spent more than 20 years with Strata Exploration, the family business founded by his daughter Sheila and son-in-law Bob Kinney.

A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Dick valued his faith and church family. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and had a knack for turning odds and ends into just about anything.

Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara Stallings Feather; daughters, Sheila Kinney of Fairfield; Misti (Matthew) Link of Moorpark, California; and Kristen (Justin) McClammy of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, Lindsay (Dan) Berry, Bobby (Kellene) Kinney, Taylor (Dylan) Baker, Owen McClammy, Mattison Link, and Emalyn Link; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burrell and Eliza Feather; sister, Maxine Sanders; brother, Burrell “Bud” Feather Jr.; and son-in-law, Bob Kinney.

Dick will be remembered for his faith, love of family, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others. The life he built and the many people he touched will remain his lasting legacy.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery with military rites provided by Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW. Visitation will be held from 11AM until the time of service on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home.
