Cecil G. Bruce, 61 of Rockford, IL, formerly of Fairfield, IL passed away on January 18, 2023, at Saint Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford, IL. Cecil was born on April 25, 1961, in Long Beach, California to Bill and Darlene (Crawford) Bruce. A graduate of FCHS class of 1979, he worked alongside his dad and brothers at Oil Well Repair. He then married the love of his life Tammy Friend in 1982 before moving to the Rochelle/Rockford area. While in northern Illinois, Cecil joined the laborers local 32, coached little league softball, and became a member of Gentle Shepherd Fellowship.
Cecil was a fun, loving, selfless man, who was always willing to help someone in need. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being active in his church, hunting, fishing, gardening, and camping. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all.
Survivors include; wife Tammy (Friend) Bruce of Rockford, daughter Crystal (Bruce) Bridges of Enfield, grandchildren Triston Biggerstaff and Kay of Norris City, Danielle and Savanna Westbrook, Nathan Biggerstaff, Brianna Biggerstaff and Alex, and Daniel Bridges all of Enfield. Five great-grandchildren; Melody, Phoebe, Autumn, Mia, and Iris. Siblings; sisters Ruby Bruce and Penny (Van) Musgrave, brother Steven (Alice) Bruce all of Fairfield, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy Bruce Jr, sister Darla (Bruce) Bankston, and nephew Ben Vining.
Funeral Services for Cecil Bruce will be held at 12 PM Saturday, January 28th at the First Christian Church, with visitation from 11 AM until the time of service. Memorials in his honor may be made to Gentle Shepard Fellowship and will be accepted at the funeral service or the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is handling arrangements.
