Bertha "Arminta" Overbee, 87, of Fairfield, passed away at 6pm on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, with family by her side.
Arminta was born on November 18, 1936, at her parent's home on Epworth St, to John A. and Mildred (Reichert) Grimes. Arminta was the youngest of three siblings.
Arminta married Larry J. Overbee in 1959 and, was married for 61 years before his passing on June 4, 2021.
After graduating from Fairfield Community High School, class of 1954, Arminta went on and studied at the former Lockyears Business College in Evansville, IN, where she graduated. She worked as a bookkeeper for a local oil company in Fairfield until she began her career at Fairfield National Bank. She worked there from June 1, 1965 through June 1, 1998, when she retired as an assistant cashier. After retirement, Arminta and Larry were active members of the First Christian Church where they both did some volunteer work.
In her free time, Arminta enjoyed sitting down at her piano and learning songs. She also enjoyed baking one of her favorite bundt cakes, which was a rum cake, as well as lasagna. During retirement, she and Larry traveled to some getaways such as Cancun, the Bahama's, and Gulf Shores, AL, which was her favorite spot.
Survivors include two sons Spencer (Brenda) Overbee of Fairfield, and Jeffrey Overbee of Louisville, KY, two grandsons Jason Overbee of Garden City, MI, and Christopher Overbee of Fairfield, three great grandchildren, a sister Rosie Canuteson of Houston, TX, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, a granddaughter Krystal Overbee, and a brother Bill Grimes.
Funeral services for Arminta Overbee will be at 1pm on Thursday, July 27th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the First Christian Church and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
